Talking about School Transition (TaST) 5-6

Talking about School Transition (TaST) 5-6 is a 13-week transitions curriculum (soon to be 17-week, with four additional lessons to be delivered in Year 7) which brings together the design and evaluation findings from Bagnall’s (2020) Talking about School Transitions (TaST) intervention and Stevenson’s (2024) Transition 5-7 intervention, as outlined in Figure 1. TaST 5-6 is a universal, class-based transition curriculum, which focusses on improving children’s emotional wellbeing over primary-secondary school transitions, by taking a gradual early-intervention approach, beginning lessons at the start of Year 5 and continuing into Year 7. The curriculum focusses on developing children’s awareness and ability to cope with the multiple changes they will experience over primary-secondary school transitions.

As of June 2024, we have begun our pilot evaluation of the programme alongside the validation of our Primary-Secondary School Transitions Emotional Wellbeing Scale (P-S WELLS). If your school is interested in being part of this work, please get in touch with Dr Charlotte Bagnall: charlotte.bagnall@manchester.ac.uk
